How REMECIN® Hair growth serum works
What is microneedling?
Microneedling (also known as dry needling) is an effective and simple way to influence the skin’s ability to regenerate and thus achieve an improvement in various aesthetic skin problems.
The tiny injuries created by the fine microneedles stimulate the skin’s wound healing process. Various messenger substances and growth factors are then released to stimulate wound healing. For example, the body’s own production of collagen, elastin, hyaluronic acid and fibroblasts is increased. These substances are important building blocks for firm, elastic and smooth skin with fine pores.
How is a proper dermaroller constructed?
Microneedling with the dermaroller, a roller made of plastic, is recommended for use at home. Pay particular attention to a clean and ergonomic finish and good roller movement. The needles should be made of a high-quality material, such as stainless steel.
Punched-out plates with needle-shaped edges are not recommended, as they may blunt earlier than individual needles. The dermaroller offered by DR HERMANS dermaroller has 192 individually inserted stainless steel needles with a length of 0.5 mm.
What are the areas of application for microneedling?
Various scientific studies have investigated the effects of microneedling in different areas of application. This showed that microneedling can be used efficiently and successfully for various skin conditions. These include, among others: Scars, hyperpigmentation, hair loss and acne scars. Microneedling can also be used successfully to rejuvenate the appearance of the skin. An overview of the research results can be found in the study overview at the end of this FAQ.
How can using the Dermaroller help with hair loss?
In a scientific study2 it was shown that repeated stimulation by microneedling causes hair growth. The study results suggest that hair growth is caused by microneedling-enhanced Wnt/β-catenin signaling and increased levels of the growth factor VEGF. The activation of Wnt/β-catenin signaling is not only important for the initiation and maintenance of hair morphogenesis, but also for the regeneration of the hair follicle and the growth of the hair shaft, as other studies have shown3,4. Microneedling can also increase the transdermal availability of topically applied lotions or other care products used.5 A needle length of 0.5 mm is the ideal solution if you want to start using a dermaroller on the scalp, as it both stimulates hair growth and increases the transdermal availability of the applied hair growth product without penetrating too deeply into the skin.
How often can I use the Dermaroller?
If the Dermaroller is used to promote hair growth, we recommend waiting at least one day after use before using it again to give the skin sufficient time to regenerate.
Please note that the Dermaroller should be replaced after approximately 3 months of regular use, as needles may become blunt over the period of use.
When will the first results be visible?
After application, it may take some time before the full effect of microneedling is visible. As a guide: the more serious the damage to the skin or the more severe the scarring, the longer it will take for results to be seen; similarly, the more often the application will have to be repeated until visible results are achieved.
Hygiene instructions and service life
Make sure that you always use the dermaroller alone – for reasons of hygiene, it should not be shared with other people. It is also necessary to clean and disinfect it after use. Also remember to clean and disinfect the Dermaroller storage box accordingly. For disinfection, we recommend the use of appropriately labeled products, for example from the pharmacy.
How is the Dermaroller used?
Before the treatment
Before the treatment, make sure that your skin is free of make-up, creams and other care and cosmetic products. The skin surface should be free of irritation. Wash your hands thoroughly before use and disinfect them if necessary.
If you have decided to use a local anesthetic (see below for more information), this must be applied to the relevant areas before treatment. Please follow the instructions in the product leaflet, especially regarding the application time.
We recommend using the dermaroller on the face in front of a mirror.
During the treatment
Carefully roll the dermaroller back and forth over the area to be treated about 10 times without applying pressure until a slight reddening of the skin becomes visible.
After the treatment
The skin is irritated after the treatment. Cooling compresses or cooled hyaluronic serum can help here.
It is advisable to combine the use of the dermaroller with the application of appropriate skin care products. Vitamin C serums, aloe vera gels or even cooled hyaluronic serum are suitable here. Make sure that the products are well tolerated, as they penetrate the skin faster and deeper due to the open skin barrier.
After microneedling, refrain from activities such as sport, swimming or going to the sauna for two days to give your skin time to regenerate. Also avoid direct sunlight after the treatment and give your skin 48 hours to recover.
To avoid contamination of irritated skin, it is important not to accidentally touch your face. It is also essential to avoid applying make-up. To further avoid contamination overnight, we recommend cleaning the bed linen with a hygiene cleaner.
In your evening skincare routine after using the dermaroller, we recommend that you avoid using soaps and other syndets, as these can further irritate the treated skin. Instead, we recommend that you use only water to cleanse your face in the evening.
When should the Dermaroller not be used?
The dermaroller should not be used if you have any of the following skin conditions: Rosacea, neurodermatitis, couperose, tendency to keloid formation, active acne, herpes blisters, eczema, hives or psoriasis. Existing skin cancer, recent chemotherapy or radiotherapy or a recent operation are also reasons not to use the dermaroller for the time being. This also applies to wounds and wound healing disorders, for example due to diabetes or when taking blood-thinning medication. You should also refrain from using the dermaroller after a sunburn until it has healed. If you are unsure whether the dermaroller is suitable for you, talk to appropriately trained experts beforehand.
